Our 2026/27 Season Show
Frozen JR. is based on the 2018 Broadway musical, and brings Elsa, Anna, and the magical land of Arendelle to life, onstage.
The show features all of the memorable songs from the animated film, with music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, plus five new songs written for the Broadway production.
A story of true love and acceptance between sisters, Frozen JR. expands upon the emotional relationship and journey between Princesses Anna and Elsa. When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood.
With a cast of beloved characters and loaded with magic, adventure, and plenty of humour, Frozen JR. is sure to thaw even ‘the coldest heart!
Why We Chose this show…
We were looking for a show that would continue our tradition of providing a “fun, upbeat and magical experience” for our young performers.
While many shows we looked at were great, some had darker themes, difficult casting or had current licensing restrictions that would prevent our company from producing them this year.
Some have been placed on the back burner for future years but this year felt like it was finally the right year for Frozen Jr!
The main themes of Frozen Jr are about, love, sisterhood, being yourself and accepting and celebrating who you are…a very important message in today’s world!
The show is full of wonderful characters and tons of fun dance numbers in a variety of styles that will allow us to showcase and challenge our cast throughout the year. We can’t wait to get started and to share this Magical show with you all!

The Characters

Most actors will be cast in more than one “Character Role” as well as play a variety of ensemble roles as well.
Anna
Young Anna, Middle Anna, and Anna are all the young Princess of Arendelle at different ages. Filled with a tremendous amount of light, energy, and love, Anna is a hopelessly optimistic extrovert at all ages, but as she grows older, she longs for connection with others, especially her sister, Elsa. Each version of this warm and determined princess requires a strong singer with great comic timing. Needs a strong, confident actor & singer.

Elsa
Young Elsa, Middle Elsa, and Elsa are all the elder Princess of Arendelle at different ages. Next in line for the throne, Elsa has been born with magical powers that can overwhelm her when she becomes afraid and harm others if not handled with care. Fearful of hurting anyone, especially her beloved sister, Anna, Elsa becomes anxious and withdrawn as she grows older, before eventually learning to take control of, and become confident in, her powers which she masterfully uses to manipulate the Snow Chorus. Needs a very strong singer who can portray Elsa’s restrained nature.

Kristoff
Kristoff is a hardworking ice harvester. Kristoff has a sarcastic veneer and a rough-around-the-edges exterior that hides a big heart. Taken in by the Hidden Folk when he was young, he loves Pabbie and Bulda dearly, but is a bit of a loner with a reindeer for a best friend- until he meets Anna. Needs heart and comic timing.
Lots of Dialogue
Songs: Reindeer Are Better Than People, Kristoff’s Joik, Hygge, Fixer Upper, Finale (Part 2), Ensemble Singing
Vocal range top: A3

Sven
Sven is a reindeer of few words, fiercely loyal pal to Kristoff, and loves giving the ice harvester a hard time. Needs a performer with good comic timing and terrific physical acting skills who can devise a strong movement vocabulary to bring this furry charmer to life.

Hans
The ambitious Prince of the Southern Isles and overlooked thirteenth son of a king. Hans constantly strives to find a way to make good and stand out. He boasts an exceedingly charming facade that fools everyone – including Anna and, ideally, the audience! – into believing he’s Prince Charming, when really, he’s just a jerk.
Lots of Dialogue
Songs: Love Is An Open Door, Ensemble Singing
Vocal range top: B3
Vocal range bottom: G2
Olaf
The magical snowman created by Anna and Elsa when they were young. Olaf is endearingly delighted by everything – especially the idea of summer. Goofy and sweet, Olaf should possess a childlike innocence and excellent comic timing.

Weselton
A visiting duke who possesses a huge inferiority complex. A bombastic, overbearing sycophant, Weselton’s sole purpose is to hobnob with influencers and royalty. Needs an actor who can portray the narrow-minded naysayer with over-the-top gusto.
Some Dialogue

Oaken
An exceedingly cheerful and convivial wandering salesperson and ardent devotee to all things cozy and comfortable. Oaken’s “Hygge” is a showstopper, so needs an actor who can portray the peppy peddler’s infectious warmth with flair and good humour.

Some Dialogue
Some Solo Lines, Ensemble Singing
Pabbie
Pabbie and Bulda are the mystical leaders of the Hidden Folk who have a soft spot for “strays.” Ever-benevolent, these parental figures want what’s best for Kristoff, even if they are a bit misguided in their efforts.

ABOUT CASTING
There are no auditions required to become part of the Acting UP! Company.
However, it will be necessary to hold informal auditions for specific roles in the show. Our first few weeks will be dedicated to skill based workshops which will include sessions on singing, dancing and acting. We will also be teaching the students “how to audition”. Out of these workshops, we will cast the show. The larger roles will be given to the students who we feel are ready to tackle them. Preference will be given to the older, or more experienced members of the group so that they can provide mentorship for the younger or more inexperienced performers.
But everyone will be given the opportunity to take on a role that includes at least a few speaking lines as well as solo singing lines. There are also many large ensemble numbers so everyone is ensured plenty of stage time! Students joining the Senior Company in their first year should be prepared to take on an ENSEMBLE ROLE so they have a chance to get used to the new challenges of the Senior Group. However, this can change depending on the casting needs of each show and the previous experience of the students registering.
We encourage parents to remind their children that every role is an important one and that being part of a strong ensemble group is what theatre is all about!

MORE ABOUT AUDITIONS…
We usually ask each student to prepare and submit a video of themselves singing one or two songs, sometimes from the show or in a similar style. Instructions, music and details of what to prepare will be supplied. Students will then have more opportunities to sing and audition for roles in the first few weeks of rehearsal.
Please note…we are not looking for perfection in these videos. It simply helps the artisitc team get to know the students and to see where each individual is starting from that year. We are happy to help the students where needed!.
2026/27 Season Course Details
This course rehearses from September 16th 2026- June 12th, 2027.
Course concludes with a year end production & 3 performances of a musical onstage at Metro Theatre.
There are no auditions to enrol in this course…students just need to have a positive attitude, strong work ethic and a willingness to learn. However, while it isn’t necessary, we do recommend that students have some experience in singing, dancing or acting for our Senior Course. All students will have the opportunity to audition for a variety of roles within the show.
We encourage parents to remind their children that every role is an important one and that being part of a strong ensemble group is what theatre is all about!
**Students registering for this course must commit to being at EVERY possible rehearsal unless absent for illness or a required activity for school.

Auditioning for Roles
NOTE: While we do not audition students for the actual Company, we do need to audition within the group to help us assign roles for the show. Specific audition information will be sent out to those who confirm their spots. But here are a few general notes:
ALL STUDENTS will be asked to submit a video of themselves singing a short song (or two) that we choose in order to help us cast the show.
We’ll make sure you have everything you need to help you learn and prepare the song, including a practice vocal track, music and lyrics and a performance track for you to use in your video. We will also send out detailed recording instructions.
Videos will not be due until September so students will have lots of time to practice and prepare their audition video over the summer. We’ll keep it simple!
In Person Auditions:
In person auditions will take place during our first few rehearsals.
Our in person auditions are as low stress as we can make them. They are simply designed to help us cast everyone in a role that suits them the best.
In person auditions consist of group singing, various styles of dancing and reading through scenes 6from the script.
Our goal is to help the students learn so we try to cast students in roles that will challenge them or allow them to try out new skills.
Those students who wish to take on a solo singing role may be asked to sing one of their songs again in person at this time.
Please note that in general, new students joining the Senior Company should be prepared to take on ENSEMBLE ROLES in their first year. However, that can change depending on the casting needs of each show and the experience of the students joining.
Individual Practice – VERY IMPORTANT!
Students will be expected to practice at home and to arrive at rehearsals each week having reviewed what was taught the previous week.
Practice tracks & performance tracks will be sent out to students so they can practice their songs at home.
All choreography will be filmed where possible, with videos emailed to the students after rehearsals so they can practice throughout the week.
If a student misses a rehearsal, they will be expected to use these videos to practice so that they don’t fall behind.
Detailed practice notes will also be sent out regularly so students know what to prepare for the coming week.
